Landscape lighting has become one of the fastest growing services in the Dallas Texas home improvement industry. Drive through just about any Dallas sub-division at night and you will see why the value of landscape lighting is on the rise. Night time security, safe passage, and elegance are just a few of the value added benefits landscape lighting provides.
Drive by some of the older Dallas neighborhoods, such as Preston Hollow, Park Cities, or Lakewood and you will see many homes illuminated with a mercury vapor landscape lighting system. It is a flood lighting system that produces an obvious bluish/green hue at night.
Mercury Vapor bulbs lose over 50% efficacy (A measurement of how many lumens a lamp produces per watt consumed) within five years. In fact mercury vapor technology is over a half century old and has the worst lamp efficacy compared to any other light source. Therefore, it was just a matter of time before this dinosaur of lighting was outlawed.
The U.S. congress passed and President Bush signed into law the Energy Policy Act of 2005 prohibiting the manufacturing or sale of mercury vapor ballasts as of January 1st, 2008. The use of Mercury Vapor is being phased out to protect the environment and to promote energy efficient solutions. So, inevitably all mercury vapor systems used for Dallas area landscape lighting systems and across the U.S. will be phased out as mercury vapor ballasts fail. It is the desire of FX Design Lighting to initiate endeavors through educating Dallas area landscape lighting home owners about the benefits of modern, high-efficiency lighting solutions and alternative remedies to the high cost and energy inadequacies in the residential environment that mercury vapor and metal halide (street light technology) solutions offer.
